The New Vanguard of West End Dining: Arcade Covent Garden Redefines the Food Hall Experience

For a long time, the words "food hall" evoked a very specific, slightly chaotic image: balancing a plastic tray, frantically hunting for a vacant stool, and screaming over generic top-40 hits while your companion queues across the room for an entirely different meal.

But tucked into a magnificent, Grade-I listed 12,500-square-foot corner site on Bedford Street, the newly opened Arcade Covent Garden has officially rewritten the rules. Stepping away from the cavernous, industrial sprawl of its sister venues at Centre Point and Battersea Power Station, this third iteration from JKS Restaurants trades overwhelming scale for a highly curated, deeply sophisticated urban playground.

By taking what was once a massive, uninspired TGI Friday’s and handing the keys over to Red Deer Architects, Arcade has managed to craft something rare in the heart of London's tourist epicenter: a hybrid space that feels magnetic to clued-in locals and starry-eyed visitors alike.

The design narrative here pays brilliant homage to the building's industrial past while leaning hard into contemporary listening-bar aesthetics. It is sleek but warm, with low-slung, intimate seating configurations that make the 385-capacity room feel surprisingly exclusive.

The real heartbeat of the daytime-to-dark transition is Studio Coffee, a concept engineered alongside renowned mixologist Rich Woods (The Cocktail Guy). By day, it’s a masterclass in specialty caffeine culture, dispensing complex brews like the velvety Black Sesame Latte and the fiery Gochujang Hot Chocolate.

As night falls, the space effortlessly transforms into a high-fidelity listening bar. The house lights dim, the vinyl selections get groove-heavy, and the menu shifts into boundary-pushing mixology. Do not leave without trying the “OFF WHITE” Russian, a brilliant, caffeinated alchemy of a classic white Russian and a perfectly pulled flat white or the punchy, bittersweet Chocolate Orange Negroni.

Arcade’s true superpower lies in its "order from your table" digital ecosystem, allowing you to seamlessly weave together a multi-course, border-hopping menu without ever breaking conversation. The lineup isn't just a collection of standard food stalls; it’s an incubation platform for some of London’s most thrilling culinary minds.

The Standout Plates

  • Solis: Helmed by Ana Gonçalves and Zijun Meng (the masterminds behind TaTa Eatery), this South American-inspired grill is an absolute triumph. The spatchcock chicken drenched in smoked Aji-Aji oil is incredibly tender, but it’s their signature flat iron steak paired with an extraordinarily rich pepper sauce that will have you wiping the plate clean with fries.

  • Zylia: For those looking for a standalone sit-down experience, this Greek-Cypriot taverna is a brilliant addition. Fronted by ex-Kiln Head Chef Nick Molyviatis and Barry Karacostas, the focus here is on vibrant, charcoal-kissed sharing plates that transport you straight to the Mediterranean.

  • Plaza Khao Gaeng: Luke Farrell’s cult-favorite Southern Thai comfort food finds its third home here. The curries are unapologetic, searingly authentic, and absolutely packed with aromatic depth.

  • Gracey’s: Bringing a slice of Connecticut to the West End, these crisp, charred New Haven-style pizzas feature an impeccable, thin crust with an elite chew.

Rounding out the global tour are the beautifully spiced North Indian street eats from Hero, fold-over masterpieces from Pablos Taqueria, and the undeniably messy, cult-favorite smash burgers from Manna.

Arcade Covent Garden isn't just another pitstop for a pre-theatre bite; it is a destination in its own right. JKS Restaurants have successfully balanced the high-energy variety of street food culture with the slick hospitality and design-forward atmosphere of an upscale evening out. Whether you're dropping in for a late-night cocktail fueled by flawless acoustics or embarking on a global tasting menu with an eclectic group of friends, Arcade has officially crowned itself the coolest dining room in the West End.
