DMA'S Return With Self-Titled Album

Back with their first album since “How Many Dreams?” in 2023, DMA'S are gracing our ears with their fifth studio album in the form of the Self-Titled “DMA'S”
Prior to release we got four of the eleven track album as singles, with Killing Time, Hurracane, Heatin Park and My Baby’s Place being released on the run up to the album and each amassing hundreds of thousands of streams, with My Baby’s Place already breaking the one million mark at the time of review!
El Alamein
Opening the album in true DMA'S fashion with pure force – there is no messing about at all getting into it with El Alamein. Slashing emotive vocals and an upbeat guitar ringing throughout.
My Baby’s Place
It’s very obvious why this song has become a bit of a fan favourite and racked up so many streams over its platforms, it just HITS. There’s no other way to put it other than just that it hits all the right spots! The first line before the chorus comes in just feels like it scratches an itch deep inside my brain, this is a proper swaying in the summer sun feel good indie anthem.
Hurracane, Killing Time and Heatin Park
For the sake of brevity, I am going to review the existing singles as a whole, as they have already been out to be enjoyed and appreciated by the fanbase. They all fit the album perfectly in my opinion and I think have been a good indication as to what is to expect from DMA'S this coming album cycle.
Emailz
I must admit that the addition of a ‘z’ in a song title released past the year 2007 will always intrigue me and this was no different. Emailz starts with the most beautiful acoustic almost indie ballad-esque sound which is very reminiscent of some of the most loved DMA'S tracks from years past – this one I feel like is going to be very emotional towards the end of a live set, and I’m all for it, it is BEAUTIFUL.
One & Only
A bit of a pace change from the previous song, One & Only brings the energy big style with a huge love song with a chorus that I can only describe as euphoric. The kind of chorus that makes you imagine a warm summers evening in a field with your mates, sitting on someone’s shoulders with dust in every crease and fold of your body, but that doesn’t matter because you’re singing this song as loud as you can.
Dancing Luck
I honestly thought it would be difficult to follow up after One & Only, but DMA'S manage it with the beautiful Dancing Luck. Another slower acoustic style song but with the same iconic DMA'S vocals punching through making you feel every single word. I am a big fan of this track.
Concrete
Another one I have no notes at all for – it’s just everything a DMA'S song should be and a bit more and its executed flawlessly. I do not imagine this will be badly received by any of the fanbase at all, dare I say, it may even become a fan favourite.
Windows
I always feel like the penultimate track of an album is one of the most important ones, as it sets up for the albums closing and Windows is a fantastic example of one of these tracks. It doesn’t feel like the end, but it feels like its coming close. It’s a very sweet song with a slow build towards the end. This feels like a phone torch out swaying song at the end of a live set, everyone together singing.
Distance
ALRIGHT HERE WE GO! DMA’s to me are a very fun band, and this song solidifies that whole heartedly with a huge end to this self-titled album, picking the pace right back up for an upbeat finale. It really wraps up what I think is a beautifully rounded, versatile album. It’s got a bit of everything, for everyone, but this final track I think is my favourite and I’m very excited to see it live on their tour for this album.
It’s been a long 3 years with no new DMA'S music, but they’ve really outdone themselves this time with their self-titled album “DMA'S”. The ceiling just keeps raising for this band, but they refuse to switch up and move away from what makes them unapologetically themselves. This is DMA’s but refined, sharpened and ready to blow the roof off any venue that gets toured.
