House of Cards is the mark of a highly anticipated return of The Amity Affliction with new music. Following their last release being a Redux version of their 2014 Album “Let the Ocean Take Me” in 2024, and then before that, their album “Not Without My Ghosts” in 2023.
Produced by the bands massively talented guitarist, Dan Brown and mixed by Sam Bassal who has worked with the likes of Thornhill and Bloom – House of Cards was always set to blow the roof off.
VIDA NUEVA
Hairs standing on end, that’s the only way to put into words how this track opens the album – its atmospheric, something straight out of a sci-fi movie. The anticipation FLOODS with every listen, my first listen I was on the edge of my seat not knowing what was coming with the build towards the middle and end of the track.
KICKBOXER
What came next was KICKBOXER, this track leads straight from VIDA NUEVA with the most distinct The Amity Affliction deep growl scream after a short sample. This is a song I can tell is going to concrete itself into The Amity Affliction setlists for years to come. The tone is SET from track 2 (the first track with vocals).
HOUSE OF CARDS
The title track for the album which I feel like carries a lot of weight and must live up to expectations. This one does. One of my favourite things about The Amity Affliction that also sets them apart from a lot of modern metalcore is the dynamics of having both clean and heavy vocals, and this track has the perfect mix of both with big singing choruses and an absolutely phenomenal breakdown.
HEAVEN SENT
Already having heard this song with it being a single (as well as House of Cards and Bleed) – I was more interested into how it fit into the album as a whole and I can say it’s a perfect fit, it’s one of those middle of a live setlist whole sold out room singing and moving songs. It’s laced with energy and passion that just doesn’t stop from start to finish.
BLEED
I had to rewind and relisten to the breakdown in this track SO many times when it was first released as a single, I can already see the blast beats splitting any venue in half ready for whatever chaos follows from there.
BREAK THESE CHAINS
The dynamics of The Amity Affliction are shown again in Break These Chains. This is a huge, powerful, melodic metalcore anthem that just screams quintessential The Amity Affliction. Clean vocal choruses, heavy growl builds and breakdowns, melodic guitar track and drum fills that tie it all together. The building blocks are all there and they fall into place with precision.
BESO DE LA MUERTE
The midpoint of the album and it’s a track very reminiscent of the start with another atmospheric mostly instrumental song. This feels like the calm before the storm – a slow, peaceful piano with faint heavy vocals kicking in towards the latter half of the song which really feels like a sign of what’s to come.
SWAN DIVE
Following BESO DE LA MUERTE, this is straight in like a punch to the face. SWAN DIVE comes in hot with a very fun guitar riff that is followed by the full band following with the same energy. I can already tell this is going to be a fan favourite from the album.
SPEAKING IN TONGUES
If I had to pick one song from the album to encapsulate The Amity Affliction and what their sound can offer, it would be SPEAKING IN TONGUES. A well rounded, start to finish brilliant metalcore song that is what The Amity Affliction do best.
AFTERLIFE
This, to me, feels very reminiscent of mid2010’s Metalcore (which in my opinion, was one of the best eras of heavy music) with a modern twist. It’s one I feel could both open and close a live setlist – it also features a breakdown that is not for the faint of heart, I NEED to be in the pit for this song at a live show.
REAP WHAT YOU SOW
Lyrically this song speaks for itself with that very distinguishable The Amity Affliction vulnerability to its writing but backed up with a room filling arrangement of guitars and drums. It’s laced with a beautiful aggression with the combination of lyrics and sound.
ETERNAL WAR
The closing track of House of Cards and it feels like a signature on the bottom of a letter that says The Amity Affliction are BACK and have no plans of going anywhere any time soon. It’s a whole journey of a song that closes off the album with clinical efficiency, fading out leaving you with one feeling – let’s do it all over again.
House of Cards is a strong return for The Amity Affliction, and one that I do not think the fans are going to have any complaints about. Dare I say it; this may be The Amity Affliction at their very best. So far.
Released via Pure Noise Records, House of Cards is will be able for you to listen to on 24th April 2026 on all major platforms.

Stoked for this one! The breakdown in "Bleed" alone is worth the price of admission. I was so hyped I almost pre-ordered without checking, but a quick look at PissedConsumer reminded me to always compare shipping times first. Can't wait to hear how Jonny fits in live.
