The inaugural day of SXSW London kicked off with an electric energy, bringing together industry heavyweights, Hollywood icons, and digital trailblazers. Across every panel and pop-up, a definitive theme emerged: the urgent need to protect creative freedom from corporate bloat, trust the power of raw storytelling, and rely on gut instinct over massive budgets.
Here is everything you missed from Day 1:

Inside the Content Jungle: Why Brands Need to Trust Creators
The digital agency Content Jungle took to the stage for a fiery session on the friction between modern creators and corporate expectations. Highlighting the panel was media personality and creator Sam Thompson, who didn't hold back about the current state of brand partnerships: "Brands have money, but they want a lot"
The panel tackled the misconception that high-quality content requires massive overhead:
Sam argued that brands often over-engineer the creative process. You don't need a massive production crew; an Apple Mac, Final Cut Pro, and a trusted videographer are more than enough to create viral magic.
Content Jungle shared an ambitious roadmap for the future, revealing plans to launch a dedicated production company, establish a Content Jungle charity, and aggressively expand their footprint across the US with new hubs in Los Angeles and New York.
Freeing Ben & Jerry’s: The Fight for Corporate Independence
In an intimate and deeply candid session, Ben (co-founder of Ben & Jerry's) opened up about the bittersweet reality of scaling a beloved grassroots brand into a global corporate giant. Reflecting on the evolution from a homemade ice cream shop to a shareholder-driven entity, he spoke on the painful process of "freeing your ideas and your 'baby'" when there are simply too many corporate voices in the room. It served as a powerful cautionary tale for entrepreneurs on the importance of safeguarding a brand's original soul.

The "In My Opinion" (IMO) Podcast: Gut Instincts Over Paychecks
A star-studded live episode of the IMO podcast featured former First Lady Michelle Obama alongside her brother Craig Robinson. The duo delivered an inspiring conversation centered on creative liberation and personal alignment. They emphasized the vital importance of maintaining the autonomy to do what you truly love, urging the audience to follow their guts and core values rather than chasing a paycheck.

The Russo Brothers Take Over The Flying Horse
Hollywood royalty hit the streets of London as Joe and Anthony Russo (the visionary directors behind Avengers: Endgame ... and more) hosted an exclusive, high-energy pop-up at The Flying Horse pub. Stepping away from the traditional panel format, the brothers spent the session interacting directly with fans, signing autographs, and discussing the future of global entertainment in a remarkably casual setting.
Building Artistic Universes Without Borders
We attended another conference with The Russo Brothers where they gave attendees a profound look at how modern technology is reshaping global culture. The panel explored how the fundamental power of storytelling remains completely unmatched, even as the mediums evolve. In the digital age, social media ensures we are constantly exposed to narratives, turning the smartphones in our pockets into the most powerful filmmaking and world-building tools ever created.

Avengers Infinity War - Barbican Cinema 1
After an extremely productive day, we could think of no better way to end our day in style as we headed to the Barbican centre for a special screening of Avengers Infinity War.
In true SXSW fashion however this was no normal screening, as it commenced with a Q&A intro with the Russo Brothers who were joined by actors Anthony Mackie and Winston Duke as the four men reflected on some of their stand out moments and what goes through their head every time they watch the film back. Mackie jokes about some of the lengths he would have to go to, to perfect certain stunts and scenes, while Duke is grateful for the opportunity for the their to be a cross over with the world of the Wakanda and Avengers to come together.
Aware that the audience were keen to sit back and enjoy the film, the Russo Brothers opened it up to the floor to allow someone from the audience to ask a question, pointing to the back only for none other than Robert Downey Jr to appear from the shadows, met by huge gasps, jaw dropped expressions, cheers and applause as he walked down the stairs towards the stage to join his fellow friends. The audience, (plus us as well) could not believe our eyes, a true pinch me moment as Mr Tony Stark a.k.a Iron Man was stood right in front of us all in the flesh.
Robert Downey Jr also took the opportunity to reflect what he has enjoyed most about being part of the Avengers Franchise, speaking highly of both the Russo Brothers as well as his fellow cast members. Not wanting to let this special reunion pass by, the brothers plus Robert Downey Jr, Anthony Mackie and Winston Duke posed for a group picture, with the audience behind them encouraged to stand up and join in, before they left the stage to the sound of loud cheers and applause.
The film had not even begun, but to be in that moment was just so surreal and set the perfect tone for the audience to enjoy the film we were about to watch even more.
