Harry Styles floated back onto the music scene in March with his newest album Kiss All The Time. Disco, Occasionally. The album was an immediate success (unsurprising given his dedicated fanbase), and the “Sign of The Times” singer has now begun rolling out music videos to accompany the album and spark excitement for his imminent tour. His Together, Together tour will have 67 stops, including a controversial 30 shows in New York’s Madison Square Garden. With a brand-new sound and a renewed dedication to giving the fans what they want, Styles is back and better than ever. So, we wanted to check out his latest music video for synth-pop hit “Dance No More.”

Strutting into a scene reminiscent of a large school gym in short shorts and 80s fitness instructor attire, Styles joins a band in front of rows of empty folding chairs which are soon filled by onlookers. He sings and dances along to the catchy track, entrancing the crowd as he moves fluidly around the room. It isn’t long before the whole room is moving in sync with him, further emphasising the fitness instructor vibe. The scene eventually descends into something much less controlled, with Styles’ audience crawling towards him before taking up a dance routine more reminiscent of a club at 3am than any kind of gym class. The renowned singer joins in regularly, shedding clothes as the video progresses, and encouraging those around him to leave their inhibitions at the door.

By the end of the video we are witnessing something much more free – the folding chairs are nowhere to be seen and sensual strobe lights encompass the scene. This music video is almost integral to highlighting the point Styles seems to make with “Dance No More;” that when a performer is visibly enjoying what they do it can be much easier for a crowd to enjoy it too.

Applicable to both club scenes and concerts, when people feel free to express themselves it can lead to unforgettable moments of pure human connection and enjoyment. Music is a catalyst for such things, and Styles doesn’t want anyone to forget that. Many have claimed that club culture is dying, but the right kind of perspective towards clubbing could be exactly what the scene needs. This video (directed by Colin Solal Cardo) is a pleasure to witness and a welcome reminder to get out and dance!
