AWARD WINNING GEORDIE SONGWRITER TEASES 2026 EP

One of the North East’s fastest-rising singer songwriters ushers in an exciting new era with the first release from this year’s hotly anticipated EP.

Katie Grace drops live staple Dead on the Floor after a stunning start to 2026 that’s brought sold-out shows, fresh awards nominations, new management and more.

And the indie folk favourite insists a dynamic new single perfectly bridges the gap between her Tyneside roots and the 21-year-old’s London home.

“Dead on the Floor started as a train of thought sung over acoustic guitar,” explains the North Shields native who cut her teeth busking on the local high street, aged 11.

“Originally it felt so personal that I didn’t know if I would ever play it live, let alone release it!

“It came to life when I started producing it in my student digs and brought it to my band.

“Since then, it’s gone from a song exclusively played in my bedroom to being on the main stage of Mouth of the Tyne festival last summer!

“The next day we were straight in at Blank Studios — working with Chris McManus and using my grant from Sunday for Sammy — to record an EP.”

Fiercely proud of her North East roots but determined to make her name nationally, Katie splits her time between two equally supportive creative communities.

As an Alan Hull Award winner (2023), she’s also been backed by regional development agency Generator’s First Notes scheme (2024) and Sunday For Sammy (2025) on a journey that’s taken her across the UK.

A staple of London’s live music scene, she’s entertained the Dublin Castle, Dingwalls, Water Rats and more — before selling out this year’s critically acclaimed headline show at the legendary Troubadour.

“Dead on the Floor is the first single in a new chapter for me,” adds Katie. “It’s my first time releasing a studio EP and it feels like a culmination of all the things I’ve learned as a songwriter, and as an independent artist, over the past few years.

“I’m so thankful to have the amazing North East support networks around me that I do and to have all the incredible musicians that I’ve met in London spurring me on.

“Sunday for Sammy funded the new EP and my band’s travel up to the North East last July.

“It was their first time making music up there and I was excited to show them around — we played Mouth of the Tyne and the Saltmarket Social, in North Shields, before we went to the Lowlights Buskers’ night where I spent every Monday playing my new songs before I moved to London.

“They had a great time recording at Blank, where I made Tangled Up, thanks to the Alan Hull Award, and Waves, thanks to Generator’s First Notes scheme.”

Katie has just announced a full band set at Darlington’s Last Train Home festival (September 5) with more shows set to follow throughout the year.

And there’s no doubt Dead on the Floor will retain its place in a setlist that continues to showcase the ambition and versatility of an artist who’s shared stages with Ella Henderson, Tom A Smith, Ken Yates, Hector Gannet, Ernie, Leazes and more.

“It’s been wonderful to reclaim a song that was originally quite miserable but I now associate with great memories playing with the band across the country,” adds Katie.

“We all pitch in singing the chorus at the end and I’m so proud of how the song has grown and changed over the last few years!”
