Ziggy Alberts, the Australian singer-songwriter known for his heartfelt storytelling and evocative blend of folk, rock, and pop, has returned to the UK as part of his NEW LOVE WORLD TOUR. His latest single, "Outlaw," co-produced by Garrett Kato, captures the essence of breaking free from societal constraints and embracing one’s true self. As Ziggy prepares for two highly anticipated shows at the O2 Forum Kentish Town, we sat down with him in London to discuss his journey, the inspiration behind "Outlaw," and what fans can expect from his upcoming performances.
Welcome back to London! Two nights in a row at Kentish Town ...
Thank you! It feels amazing to be back. London has always held a special place in my heart, and returning here with the NEW LOVE WORLD TOUR is something I’ve been looking forward to. There’s an energy in this city that’s just unmatched, and playing at the Kentish Town Forum again is going to be incredible. The connection I feel with the audience here is always so strong, and I’m excited to share this new chapter of my music with everyone.
Speaking of new chapters, your latest single "Outlaw" has been making waves. Can you tell us a bit more about the inspiration behind it?
"Outlaw" is a very personal song for me. It’s about shedding those societal expectations that we often feel pressured by and instead embracing our true selves. I wanted to capture the feeling of standing up for yourself, being kinder, and allowing yourself to be more human. It’s about changing course when you need to and not being afraid to take a stand for what you believe in. The lyrics reflect a journey of self-discovery and the realization that sometimes, we have to be a little rebellious to stay true to who we are.
The production on "Outlaw" is also quite unique, blending elements of rock, folk, and pop. How did you approach this track?
Garrett and I have a great working relationship, and we really wanted to push the boundaries with "Outlaw." We focused on creating a sound that’s rich and layered, with emotive vocals and guitar tones that would resonate deeply with listeners. We were inspired by artists like The Lumineers and Kings Of Leon, and we wanted to bring that same kind of raw, authentic energy to the track. It’s always exciting to see how a song evolves in the studio, and with "Outlaw," it all just came together in a really powerful way.
This tour also seems to be quite special for you, especially with the memories of recording your EP, 'A POSTCARD FROM LONDON,' at Abbey Road Studios. How does that experience influence your performances now?
Recording at Abbey Road was a dream come true, and it definitely left a mark on me. The history and the atmosphere of that studio are so inspiring, and I think it brought out a new side of my music. Performing songs from that EP, especially here in London, feels like coming full circle. There’s a sense of nostalgia, but also a lot of excitement about where the music is headed next. The energy from those sessions is something I try to bring to the stage every night.
Your tour is taking you to some iconic venues, including a two-night stint at the O2 Forum Kentish Town. What can fans expect from these shows?
The shows are going to be a celebration of both the new music and the journey we’ve been on together over the years. Fans can expect a mix of the old and the new, with some surprises thrown in. The Kentish Town Forum is such a special venue, and I really want to make these nights unforgettable. There’s something magical about sharing these moments with the audience, and I’m looking forward to creating something really special with everyone who comes out.
Finally, what’s next for you after this tour? Any new projects on the horizon?
After the tour, I’m planning to head back into the studio to work on more new music. There’s a lot of inspiration flowing right now, and I’m excited to see where it leads. I’m also looking forward to spending some time back home in Australia, reconnecting with nature, and recharging. But for now, I’m fully focused on making this tour the best it can be and sharing these experiences with everyone who’s been on this journey with me.
As Ziggy Alberts continues his NEW LOVE WORLD TOUR, fans in London and beyond can look forward to an unforgettable experience filled with heartfelt music, authentic storytelling, and a deep connection that only an artist like Ziggy can create. Don’t miss the chance to see him live as he brings his unique sound and powerful message to the stage.
