To celebrate their fortieth year, legendary Canadian dance music label Unidisc are marking the occasion with a Claptone remix of the Trans-X classic ‘Living On Video’, out 26th February. In keeping with the label’s progressive and cutting-edge ethos, a new chapter opens this year as Unidisc founder George Cucuzzella’s son, Francis, spearheads the new project with a lineup featuring some of the world’s best-known contemporary dance music artists including Carl Cox, Jacques Greene, Purple Disco Machine, and Claptone.

Punctuated by a pumping bassline, vintage synth stabs and hushed, seductive French vocals, Claptone delivers the first of the reworks with his chunky, high-energy adaptation of ‘Living On Video’ that’s simply made for the dancefloor.

Over its four-decade-long lifetime, Unidisc has constantly evolved and shifted with the times - formed in 1977 it quickly became one of Canada’s largest independent record labels, building a reputation around its Italo disco and Hi-NRG output from artists such as Lime, France Joli, and Geraldine Hunt. Unidisc went on to spawn a national movement that was a precursor to the arrival of global stars like Richie Hawtin, John Aquaviva and Mistress Barbara.

A band synonymous with Unidisc, Trans-X are a cult outfit associated with the global Italo disco scene. ‘Living On Video’ was their biggest hit, reaching #1 in Spain and also making it into the ‘Top 10’ in Austria, Germany and Switzerland.

Best known for his remix work, including his reimagining of Gregory Porter’s ‘Liquid Spirit’, after releasing ‘Fantasy’, his second studio album in 2018, Claptone’s uplifting and vocal heavy style of house has gone on to rack up millions of plays on YouTube, with his Spotify currently enjoying 3 million monthly listeners. More recently he has remixed tracks from superstars Dua Lipa, Mark Ronson, Michael Kiwanuka and more, as well as launching online cooking series ‘Quarantine Canteen’ and the immersive weekly live series, Claptone In The Circus during a busy lockdown period.

The Claptone remix of ‘Living On Video’ marks the beginning of an exciting reimagining for one of Canada’s best known dance music labels.
