As you have read before here, we went on a roadtrip around the coast of East Yorkshire, an area we've been wanting to cover for a long time. We were lucky to find the best accomodation. Andy and Lindsey, the friendliest owners we've ever met (with a lot of stories to tell) made the stay a vacation within our vacation. So, before the sea, before the salt and lighthouses, we checked in at The Highfield, a beautifully restored Victorian house set on the edge of the East Yorkshire market town of Driffield. It’s not just a hotel, it’s an immersion in thoughtful design and warm hospitality.
Every room has a different theme, 9 rooms to be exact. Each suite is a world of its own, designed with indulgent comfort in mind.. No two are the same—each draws on a different chapter of the house’s remarkable past.
We stayed in the Kingsland Room, in honor of the owners's once-upon-a-time life in the famous neighbourhood in East London. The room is a spacious and elegant suite with lofty ceilings, grand windows, and a soft luxury that managed to feel indulgent without being overstated. The décor, think rich blues, dark wood, heritage wallpaper, and luxurious textures felt both regal and contemporary. A freestanding bathtub and an ultra-comfortable bed completed the feeling of slow living done right.
Historically the ‘Ladies’ bedroom, this room is naturally light and feels classic yet modern, we like to call it ‘Couture’.
The room design features a super-king half tester bed with bespoke wood turnings made from old Yew trees that once stood in the grounds, a seating area of Victorian furniture and free standing cast iron bath that sits next to the window seat.

Each morning began with a salmon and egg muffin, because who doesn’t like that? as well as rich coffee and delicious tea. The garden which is lush, calm, and full of birdsong, made it tempting to stay all day, it sets you back to the tranquility of the countryside, although not far from the coast (about 17 minutes far from Bridlington by car), this is the perfect place for a roadtrip around one of the most magical areas of Yorkshire.
A quick note needs to be made, we decided to stay at The Highfield knowing that the restaurant was closed for the week. However, their gifted Head Chef Mark Langton and talented Restaurant Manager Lauren have come together with a shared vision to create something truly special: The Mill & Vine, an exciting new restaurant and bar that promises to bring fresh energy and flavour to the hotel.
The Mill & Vine will deliver exceptional quality and high standards expected from The Highfield just like your stay
The Highfield is clearly a passion project, lovingly brought back to life by owners who care deeply about local history, quality design, and their guests’ comfort. It set the tone for everything that followed: character, charm, and depth.
