If there is one UK artist’s journey who makes me smile each and every time it would have to be none other than Becky Hill. Having listened to her music for countless years and had the privilege of witnessing numerous live performances and tours, for me Becky Hill is someone who continues to slay on a daily basis.

Having already seen her previously this summer, during Rock N Roll Circus in Sheffield back in August, I was even more excited to continue those good vibes when she came to Newcastle Utilita Arena on 13th October 2024 as part of her UK Headline Tour.

If you have never been to a Becky Hill show before, then let me tell you what, you can always guarantee an electric and amazing evening where the rules are simple - feel safe, get ready to dance and have fun.

In the case of this night in particular, the Newcastle crowds turned up in their number, which is a testament to the powerful way in which the music of Becky Hill unites so many people and generations of music fans all finding strength, joy and comfort in everything she stands for as an artist and a positive role model as person.

So with that being said, a question you must be asking is how was the actual show! With this now being the 4th or 5th time I have been to a Becky Hill show, much like previous times, our talented artist delivered on all levels.

With the crowd geared and ready to give Becky a North East welcome, the house lights went down, the adrenaline went high, as the live band and backing singers took to the stage followed closely by the lady herself, dressed to impress. Beginning her set with True Colours, and sung which such confidence and energy which had this audience entranced and moving to the rhythm of the music.

With this song being one of her most recent releases from this year which saw Becky team up with Self Esteem, it was such a special moment to be able to witness this song being performed live in front of my eyes, and best of all is that she had the whole audience’s full attention, creating that impact from the get go.

Saying a quick greeting to the crowd with the obligatory Hello Newcastle, which was received with plenty of cheers, Becky was wasting no time in keeping the good vibes flowing as she unleashed the adrenaline of Gecko (Overdrive). Much more a club/dance music track when you watch the music video, when played live in somewhere like the Utilita Arena, Becky just elevated the song even more adding even more euphoria to the whole experience. I couldn’t help but get up off my seat and just sing along, after all as the song goes, ‘I cannot help this feeling baby, only you can make me come alive’ ha!

Having set the tone for the first couple of tracks, it was time take this party up to the next level as Becky took us through the catalog of tracks which have all played an important role in the different stages in her rise, including her smash hit Crazy What Love Can Do which she released in 2022 with David Guetta and Ella Henderson. A song which has such vibrancy to it and is one of those songs which is so iconic, because in terms of Becky Hill in particular was one of the many tracks which made people fall in love with her music even more.

The anthems kept on coming over the course of the set, as Becky took us back even further to 2016 with False Alarm, very may have been of her earlier steps but she added a 2024 freshness to it, as she performed it with such passion and a chance to truly witness how she has grown in such strength these past years. I always have this saying that people we may not know much about yesterday, go on to become tomorrow’s somebody, and in the case of Becky Hill she is the prime example of someone has continued to push herself and strive in all that she does.

Back to the music then, for any Becky Hill fan such as me, it felt that this tour we had all been spoilt for choice, because Becky had packed in so many great and insane tunes into her set and added a extra boost of life to it, UK Arena Tour style.

Of Course you had the staple fan favorites, but for me what I really enjoyed about this night was a chance to hear some of Becky’s much more recent material from her second album Believe Me Now? which was released on 31st May 2024.

Sharing tracks such as Man Of My Dreams, Lonely Again and Darkest Hour felt so wholesome to hear live. In the past the industry has the habit of classing Becky Hill as a ‘dance artist’ putting her in a box, but what this second album represents is music that crosses genres where Becky Hill’s potential is limitless. And even more inspirational I find is just seeing the direction and extra level of depths of honesty she invests as a songwriter.

This is music not just to make you listen but it is music to make you think, resonate and feel, and that is exactly we see Becky Hill encourage us to embrace even more with this brand new album.

With the night flowing with such excitement in the air and Becky having given us all an impressive set of 21+ songs it was almost time for this party to come to a  close. Obviously with everyone having so much fun, and Becky taking the opportunity to thank the crowd for their continued love, support and belief in her over the years, she was going to make sure she made her visit to Newcastle end on a high, with her penultimate tracks My Heart Goes (La Di La), Swim and Wish You Well before closing in style (and plenty of confetti) to Remember

As I said earlier, I have seen Becky Hill so many times, but as I reflect back it just makes me smile at how she continues to excel. There is no greater place to be that witnessing the rise of an artist in their element.

A night I will never forget, thank you for the memories Becky and continuing to bless and unite us all with your beautiful and powerful music!
