Tracks Released So Far:
Blue Sky & The Painter: This uplifting track draws inspiration from Norwegian artist Edvard Munch and his battle with depression, reflecting on the challenge of creating through darkness and the hope of seeing light again. Dan recently performed a stripped-down version of this song in the Sargasso Sea with Greenpeace to raise awareness about ocean conservation.
Leonard & Marianne: Inspired by Leonard Cohen’s complex relationship with Marianne Ihlen, this haunting love song deals with themes of longing and heartbreak. It was one of the earliest tracks written for the project, dating back to 2020.
Eve & Her Paradise Lost: A modern reimagining of the biblical story of Eve, this track explores the themes of temptation, self-discovery, and the consequences of choices.
Seasons & Narcissus: This song contrasts the changing seasons with the myth of Narcissus, touching on themes of vanity, self-reflection, and transformation through life’s cycles.
Emily & Her Penthouse in the Sky: A character-driven song about isolation and yearning for freedom, this track tells the story of Emily, who is trapped in her metaphorical "penthouse" while looking down at the world below.
Fans can also gain deeper insight into these characters through the newly launched MUSES: An Ampersand Podcast, where Dan Smith and academic Emma Nagouse explore the lives of the poets, artists, and historical figures featured on the album. Available here.
Following these Candlelight Original Sessions, Dan Smith will embark on a global tour in November, with exclusive performances in cities like Paris, Amsterdam, Berlin, Los Angeles, New York, London, and more which is already SOLD OUT.
