DUTTY MOONSHINE BIG BAND - Release 'Tommy & Loretta' Single + Animated Video

A collaborative effort with London Hip-Hop wonder ODJBOX, this latest single is another genre-defying delight. Lifting elements of Noir Jazz to Hip Hop, Swing and more, in ‘Tommy & Loretta’ the Big Band deliver a sensual new single that simmers with a grandiose cinematic scale and has an epic backstory to match. Taken from the Big Band’s upcoming ‘City Of Sin’ album (a record which continues a fictional narrative loosely-based on the band’s own beginnings); ‘Tommy & Loretta’ tells the tale of two of the city’s most notorious villains.

Delivered by vocal powerhouse Maria Laveau, the listener is thrown into the criminal underworld and immersed in the confrontation of two bad guys who leave a trail of destruction as an unlikely romance blossoms between them. Perhaps doomed from the beginning, like all epic love stories the listener quickly learns that tragedy, heartbreak and death are never far behind…

‘Tommy & Loretta’ arrives with a beautiful video animated in an classic Art-Deco style, as illustrated and animated by Twitchy Pixel.

This new single is just the latest track to emerge from the band’s highly anticipated 'City of Sin' LP. Set to be the second album from this 12-piece musical force of nature, it will be hitting the shelves on 29 May 2020 via Universal Music Group. All eyes are on the album charts as they strive to get “City Of Sin” into the official Top 40 and aim to make their mark in the mainstream with their unique and underground sound.

In light of current global events, the Big Band recently made the difficult decision to postpone both the release of ‘City of Sin’ and their Spring UK Dates. After curtailing their UK tour part-way through, the band are pleased to confirm all dates have been rescheduled for the Autumn where they hope to resume business as usual. [ Full dates and details below ] Keeping busy during these uncertain times, the Big Band have also been engaging with their quarantined fans all over the world with an array of innovative and exciting social media content. Livening up lockdown, the Big Band have been providing live DJ Sets on Facebook and live video chats with each member of the band every Tuesday via Instagram in their popular "Tuesday Takeovers”. In addition, the band have come-together virtually to make an uplifting new video to accompany forthcoming track 'The Arrest’ - featuring all 12 members of the band in their individual isolation stations:  Watch here.

Blending brass, keys, drums, digital hardware and vocalists, Dutty Moonshine Big Band are renowned for their ability to create explosive bass music that is inspired-by the classic big band sound of days gone by. There’s no band in the entire world quite like these guys! On their sophomore album, ‘City Of Sin’, the outlaw outfit hone their craft and deliver 11 tracks designed to take the listener on a uniquely multi-genre, bass-heavy, dancefloor-destroying journey. Rifling through an eclectic array of sounds and genres, all tracks are commanded by startling and accomplished performances from chief vocalists and conceptual narrators Maria Laveau and Hypeman Sage. Picking up where their debut album left-off, ‘City Of Sin’ continues the band’s semi-fictional narrative. Telling the tale of a gang of 1930s moonshine bootleggers as they make their way to the top of the gangster food-chain, there’s plenty more twists and turns afoot here.

Through tracks such as euphoric album opener ‘Big Band Fam’, the cryptic 7-minute love song 'Tommy & Loretta’, the South America-inspired ‘Fiança’ (based on the 150 Funk/Baile sound and featuring specialist Porteugeuse vocalist, Chininha), to the grime-indebted ’The Arrest’, and the Afro-pop twisted ‘Locked Up’; the Dutty Moonshine Big Band unfurl a parodical story loosely-based on the band’s own beginnings, and beyond your wildest dreams. The album is released on 29th May 2020.

Later this year, the Dutty Moonshine Big Band will be taking their new material out on the road for an extensive run of UK live shows. 2019 witnessed the biggest and baddest festival season for the 14-piece live onslaught and saw them conquer stages at the likes of Wilderness, Beatherder, Glastonbury and Valleyfest with a unique take on 1920’s jazz that has been fused together with future sounds from the bass music underground and fronted by two of the UK’s best MC’s, Maria Laveau and Hypeman Sage. Raring to hit the road again in 2020, the band will be flaunting a brand new stage show and bags upon bags of new and unheard bass driven treats for what will be their first headline tour of the UK since 2018.
