Following a breakout start to 2025 with the release of Do It Again and Take It Or Leave It, Newcastle-born artist Charlie Floyd returns with his most personal and powerful release yet: ‘2000’, out Friday July 18th. The track marks Floyd’s third single of the year and sets the tone for his forthcoming debut EP, landing in August.
“2000”: A MESSAGE, A MINDSET, A MISSION
A self-produced anthem that fuses reflective lyrics with infectious hooks, 2000 is a motivational statement wrapped in shimmering indie-pop. Originally written about a personal situation, the song evolved into something broader - an urgent reminder not to get complacent, to chase what matters, and to define life on your own terms.
Charlie explains: “I wrote it specific to a personal situation but once I had the lyrics down on paper I realised the message was bigger than what I was specifically dealing with.” The title itself reflects more than just an era. For Floyd, “I was born in the 2000s and I’ll die in the 2000s - everything I’ll ever learn or experience is within ‘2000 and something’. That thought comforts me. It also drives me.”
As the first track fully produced by Floyd himself, 2000 gives listeners a deeper look into his creative world. The DIY approach adds a raw edge to the polished sound, showcasing his instincts as both a songwriter and producer. “There are things I don’t even notice I do when I produce that other people will point out as a niche, and I love that,” he says. “Whether or not something is considered technically correct, if it sounds good and how you want it to, then it’s completely up to the audience to decide.”
BUILDING TOWARD THE EP – OUT AUGUST 20
‘2000’ is the final single before Floyd drops his debut EP - a four-track statement piece built from nearly a decade of writing, life experience, and musical exploration. “The EP is a pivotal moment in my career,” he says. “What ties it together is 9 years of songwriting, 23 years of life experiences and 20 odd years of musical influence.”
The EP pulses with positivity and summer energy, shaped by years of evolving ideas and newly sparked inspiration. Some songs date back to Floyd’s teenage years, like the chorus on ‘Calls’- written at age 17 - while others like Take It Or Leave It came together just weeks before studio sessions.
HOMETOWN SHOW – ENGINE ROOM, NORTH SHIELDS – JULY 25
As he criss-crosses the country playing major festivals, Charlie Floyd returns to his roots with an intimate headline show at The Engine Room in North Shields. Just minutes from where he grew up, this performance offers fans a rare opportunity to see Floyd up close and personal in his hometown.
“Being 10 minutes from my house and knowing these streets like the back of my hand—it’s such a comforting feeling,” he shares. “You can’t buy that, when it comes to preparation for a headline performance.”
This special hometown show on Friday July 25 will feature Floyd performing solo in a new one-man band setup. Incorporating synths, loops, and transitional interludes, the set is designed to be immersive, experimental, and full of energy.
Joining him on the bill are two standout local artists: Robyn McLeod, formerly of Rushbonds, known for her commanding vocals and sharp songwriting; and Thomas Seagrave, Floyd’s former bandmate in Baltic, now stepping out as a solo artist for the very first time.
“Thomas is my brother - not literally but he may as well be,” Floyd says. “I’ve learnt so much from him over the years and I’m thrilled he’s debuting his solo music at this show.”

BBC INTRODUCING & BEYOND
With festival slots at Warwick Castle, Hardwick, and RNRC already in the bag, and recent support from BBC Introducing, Floyd’s momentum is undeniable. His second EP is already mapped out, with a growing back catalogue ready to be carefully rolled out.
“I want people to understand Charlie Floyd and what it is I offer as a musician,” he says. “It’s about the bigger image - the graphics, the covers, the artwork, the instruments, the production, the influences. If people resonate and relate to that, then I’m a happy man.”
