With the summer months within touching distance, music fans celebrated in style during the recent bank holiday weekend as BBC Radio 1 Big Weekend came to Luton, between 23rd-25th May 2024 for a star-studded line up of some of the most iconic, influential and emerging artists in music right now.
Our very own live music photographer Livy Dukes was there to document the event for 3 days of incredible live music. Take a look through this special gallery as Livy brings those vibrant memories to life through the power of photography.
A few words from Livy…
I had such a great time shooting at Radio 1’s Big Weekend! The BBC Pictures team were very welcoming and I couldn’t wait to get started when I arrived on site.

Day 1 was a very dance-focused day with Becky Hill kicking things off, followed by the likes of Nathan Dawe, Diplo and Rudimental.
I always really enjoy seeing Ella Henderson perform too, she brings so much fun to the stage and made a guest appearance with Rudimental later on in the day. The headliner Chase and Status drew the night to a close with their DnB anthems, which the crowd absolutely loved!

Day 2 began with Joel Corry on the main stage, then I spent a lot more time on the New Music stage photographing acts like Caity Baser, Dylan and Cat Burns. There was a very tight schedule between acts so the Pictures team escorted us round in buggies which was really fun!
Later on Raye took to the stage as Saturday’s headline act and she was spectacular! I’d been wanting to see her for a long time and she put on a great show with a full band.

Day 3 was probably my favourite, as I started the day at the New Music stage photographing Fizz, followed by Sea Girls who I’m a huge fan of. There were a lot of energetic performances on Sunday which were really fun to shoot, like CMAT, Declan McKenna and Olly Alexander. Sabrina Carpenter was a huge highlight for me too and I listened to her Nonsense outro from the tent whilst I was editing.
Nothing could quite prepare me for how incredible Coldplay were though! I especially enjoyed when Chris Martin sat on the edge of the stage and poked his tongue out at all the photographers swarming round him.
Honestly one of the best experiences ever! As a photographer and a music fan this is something I am going to remember for a long time to come. Thank you BBC Radio 1 Big Weekend, hopefully see you again next year!
