Apple Music Support Added to Rekordbox And All-in-one DJ Systems OMNIS-DUO and XDJ-AZ

This year saw another exciting development for the corporation as they announced  that Apple Music support is being added to rekordbox and all-in-one DJ systems OMNIS-DUO and XDJ-AZ which enables users to play seamlessly using Apple Music’s massive library of over 100 million tracks, and its expertly curated playlists, when performing with rekordbox and supported DJ gear.

Fascinated about this new chapter we spoke to Rob Anderson EMEA Product Planning Manager to tell us more.

Exciting times with Apple Music support added to rekordbox as well as OMNIS-DUO and XDJ-AZ. How has the response been so far since you rolled out the update?

The response has been overwhelmingly positive. DJs across experience levels, especially those just getting started on their journey, have embraced the new Apple Music integration and consider it a game-changer. For years, music accessibility has been one of the biggest barriers to entry, and this update helps tear that wall down. We’ve seen a surge in engagement from users, and having a major streaming platform providing curated playlists for beginners helps keep them engaged with the art of DJing while they learn. The early feedback tells us that this wasn’t just a nice-to-have feature. It was essential.

AlphaTheta are always at the forefront of creating innovative ideas to empower emerging DJs. What were some of the core elements that formed part of the vision for the collaboration?

From the start, our vision was about removing friction, making the journey as engaging as possible for all types of DJ’s but specifically the beginner user. An intuitive hardware/software integration that eases the music accessibility issue can empower DJs who might not have an extensive local library yet, or who like to discover and play on the fly. Collaborating with Apple Music made sense because of their vast catalog and strong focus on quality and curation. We also prioritized workflow fluidity, ensuring that the experience from rekordbox to performance felt natural, whether you’re using OMNIS-DUO in a park with friends or the XDJ-AZ in a club.

Take us through the process you worked through to bring Apple Music to the controllers, OMNIS-DUO and XDJ-AZ? Why these specifically and what can customers expect with these changes?

Integrating Apple Music into standalone DJ systems involved deep collaboration between our software and hardware teams, as well as Apple’s development environment. We carefully selected OMNIS-DUO and XDJ-AZ because they represent our most forward-thinking, flexible, and mobile solutions. Both are designed for spontaneous creativity and accessibility, so they were a natural fit for this new streaming integration. For customers, it means they can now DJ directly from Apple Music instantly. Just turn on the device, log in, and you’re ready to play.

As mentioned you have partnered with Apple Music. Of course there are other music platforms out there, but what was it in particular that made you align yourself with Apple?

Our goal is to continue adding value for our customers regardless of which model they use, and which streaming service they subscribe to. Apple shares a deep commitment to both audio quality and user experience, which aligns with our values at AlphaTheta. Their ecosystem also has a very strong reach with younger and emerging creators who are already using Apple devices for music discovery and consumption. Apple Music’s dedication to curation and human touch made them a strategic fit. They weren’t just offering a catalog. They’re offering a platform that respects the integrity of music and supports DJ culture in a meaningful way.

The way that people, especially emerging artists across all genres, is constantly evolving. Whether it be in a small way or a big way, it must feel good knowing that AlphaTheta is making some sort of an impact on an artist’s journey and their confidence.

 Absolutely. It’s one of the driving forces behind everything we do. We often hear from DJs who say our gear gave them their first taste of performing in front of an audience or helped them unlock their sound.
