From the first bite, Short Road Pizza proves that pizza can be both art and comfort food. Nestled in the heart of East London, this hidden gem brings a thoughtful, globally inspired twist to every slice. The pizza here is not just food, it’s a story on a plate, carefully crafted with love, tradition, and bold creativity.

The foundation of every pizza at Short Road is impeccable dough. Light yet resilient, it has a perfect balance of chewiness and crispness that carries the toppings without overpowering them. Each base is a product of patience, fermented slowly to develop deep, complex flavour: a testament to the founder Ugo’s devotion to his craft.

Toppings at Short Road are where the magic truly happens. Ingredients are sourced with care, combining local British produce with inspiration from around the world. Every pizza tells a story, from classic combinations with a refined twist to daring, inventive creations that surprise and delight.

Two signature pizzas stand out:

The Smokey Margy is a smoky, melty masterpiece. Provola cheese, lightly smoked to perfection, blankets a rich, tangy tomato sauce and is finished with fresh basil leaves. Every bite is aromatic and indulgent, balancing smoke, freshness, and the gentle sweetness of the sauce. It’s a pizza that lingers in the memory, comforting yet exciting.

Then there’s the Cowabunga, a playful and indulgent creation that has quickly become a fan favourite. A rich nduja béchamel provides the perfect spicy kick, while smoked pepperoni adds depth and umami. Finished with aged Parmigiano Reggiano, this pizza is bold, full-flavoured, and unapologetically delicious. Each bite is layered, complex, and utterly satisfying, the kind of pizza that makes you close your eyes and savor the moment.

Beyond the pizza itself, the atmosphere of Short Road Pizza enhances the experience. Whether you’re enjoying a casual night at William the Fourth or grabbing a slice at Three Colts Tavern, the setting is friendly, relaxed, and perfect for sharing good food with good people. It’s the kind of place where locals feel at home, and newcomers instantly feel welcomed.

The Story: Family, Adventure, and the Love of Pizza

The story of Short Road Pizza is as rich and layered as its toppings. Founded by Ugo and Kate in 2020, it began as a humble, heartfelt project during the pandemic. Baking from a garden oven on Short Road in Leytonstone, they shared pizzas with neighbours, raising money for the local food bank Eat or Heat. It was a small act of kindness that quickly grew into a culinary adventure.

Ugo’s inspiration comes from his grandfather, nonno Gigi, whose passion for pizza shaped Ugo from an early age. Gigi’s travels around Italy and the world taught Ugo that pizza is more than a meal, it is a medium for storytelling, culture, and creativity. Every topping, every spice, every technique carries a piece of that history.

This blend of heritage and innovation is evident in every pizza. The Smokey Margy evokes classic Italian roots while introducing a smoky modern twist. The Cowabaca showcases global flair with bold, daring flavours that might never appear on a traditional menu. The result is a collection of pizzas that feels both familiar and surprising, a perfect reflection of Ugo’s journey and vision.

Short Road Pizza is more than a place to eat; it’s a celebration of curiosity, craftsmanship, and connection. Every slice invites you to taste tradition, travel, and imagination. A rare combination that makes it truly special.

For anyone seeking a pizza experience that transcends ordinary expectations, Short Road Pizza delivers not just flavour, but heart, story, and inspiration: one unforgettable slice at a time.

My interaction with StartCDL was smooth from start to finish. Nothing felt exaggerated or artificial, which made it easier to trust the process. The guidance feels steady, almost conversational, helping you stay focused without feeling monitored. It gives the impression of a trucking school that understands different starting points and doesn’t judge where you’re coming from. That respectful tone, combined with practical instruction, creates an environment where progress feels natural and realistic rather than forced.

'The Smokey Margy' sounds heavenly! I was just thinking about pizza on my commute. Imagine needing a significant figures calculator after estimating how many slices I could eat! This place seems like a perfect blend of tradition and modern flavours.
